What is West Harris County Branch AAUW EYH?

West Harris County Branch AAUW Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics™, or EYH, is a day-long conference for 450 Houston-area middle school girls and their parents, teachers, and counselors. Each year, roughly 150 volunteers from the West Harris County Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW-WHC) plan and carry out the conference. A 501(c)(3) organization, EYH is funded by contributions from corporations, foundations and individuals.

Our Mission

  • Fosters awareness of career opportunities in science, math and technology related careers.

Our History

Since 1992, volunteers from the West Harris County Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW-WHC) have organized an annual EYH conference. The first Houston-area EYH was held in 1993 on the campus of Rice University. In 1995, the conference moved to The Rice School/La Escuela Rice, a newly opened K-8 school in the Houston Independent School District. Spring Branch Independent School district began hosting the Expanding Your Horizon Conference in 2011 at Northbrook Middle School. The 2017 Conference will be held at Spring Forest Middle School.

Are there other EYH conferences?

Yes. Each year since 1976, EYH conferences throughout North America have been introducing middle and high school girls to math- and science-related professions. For a comprehensive list of EYH conferences, visit www.expandingyourhorizons.org.
